John Fletcher, who as Ecstasy of the foundational hip-hop group Whodini was the engine for some of the genre's first pop successes, wearing a flamboyant Zorroesque hat all the while, died on Wednesday in Atlanta. He was 56. His daughter Jonnelle Fletcher confirmed the death in a statement.
The discography of Whodini consists of six studio albums and twenty-seven singles.
He reportedly died at the age of 56. A cause of death has not yet been revealed. Chuck Creekmur, co-founder and CEO of AllHipHop, exclusively told theGrio that Whodini helped blaze a trail by refusing to be placed in any singular box.
